Seven Phono
Stage
The Seven Phono
is a new design with many unique features. Like all TRON products
it relies on the vacuum tube for amplification. I am not going to
extol the virtues of this method of amplification over solid state
but I have found it to produce the most natural presentation of
recorded music. I guess that's why all the top musicians still use
valve amps for recording and why recording engineers still use valve/tube
microphones. I have kept the stages in the Seven to an absolute
minimum and have selected valves/tubes that are easily obtainable,
giving the potential owner the option of using his or her favourite
brand. The Seven can come set up either for moving magnet or moving
coil cartridges.
SEVEN Reference Phono Stage
As the standard Seven but includes exotic resistors and custom capacitors used in the Syren II.
Dual Input with MM/MC switching is also available as an option. Please specify when ordering.
SEVEN Ultimate Phono Stage
Includes exotic resistors and custom capacitors used in the Syren II,
switchable MM/MC dual inputs, silver MC transformers and pure silver wiring.
Note: All Seven MC phono stages can be specified with 20dB, 26dB or a custom MC gain setting at time of ordering.
Moving Magnet gain is 49dB
The
coil options are as follows:
1) +20dB
for cartridges with an output of 0.3mV to 0.9mV.
2) +26dB for cartridges with an output of 0.2mV to 0.3mV.
3) +30dB for cartridges with an output of 0.1mV to 0.2mV.
4) +40dB for cartridges with an output of less than 0.1mV.
The output
stage has a very low impedance high current output, which enables
it to be used with any pre-amp, whether valve or transistor, or
even a transformer type volume control (TVC).
Ultimately
the proof is in the listening and I strongly recommend you take
the opportunity to listen to one at your nearest TRON Dealer. Please
check our Orders & Enquiries page to see a list of our distributors.

significantly upgraded since this review.
Information Note: due to many posts on the Audio forums around the world regarding the type of valve/tube that can be used in the Seven Phono, here is what you can use should anyone feel the need to change the tubes:
V1 & V2 - 12AX7 (low noise)
V3 - 12AU7WA, 5814WA - must be the WA version.
NOS types are fitted in V3 from new. V1 & V2 are selected for low noise.
